It's Time for Solar

After 15 years of relative inactivity, utility-scale solar power projects are gaining considerable momentum globally. With rapidly declining cost of technology and greater consumer and public policy support, PV solar technology has emerged as a competitive power generation option, particularly in sun-drenched south western regions of the US where power demand peaks during daylight hours.

The US is the dominant Solar PV market in the world with the remarkable growth observed during the period 2001-08. The market has grown from 168 MW in 2001 to around 1,111 MW by the end of 2008. The unprecedented growth witnessed by this market is credited to the supportive policy framework for the Solar PV technology in collaboration with high-end solar investments by major companies. The annual solar PV installations in the country are expected to increase from 280 MW in 2008 to 1515 MW by 2013. The cumulative solar PV installed capacity is expected to reach 5,293 MW by 2013.

PV Market Growth

Access Solar Energy is at the forefront of this market reality by developing the first utility scale solar facility in southwest Utah. Access Solar Energy's game plan is underway with the announcement of the development of Utah's first utility scale PV solar facility - the Escalante Valley Solar One project. When fully developed the project will exceed 100 megawatts.

HOW MUCH DOES 100 MW OF PHOTOVOLTAIC SOLAR POWER... POWER?

The average Utah single family home uses 703kWh monthly. The 100MW Escalante Valley Solar One will have the capacity to power 40,000 homes. How much is 40,000 homes? It’s almost half the total number of single family homes in Salt Lake City.
